AUDREY FRESHMAN, LCSW, CASAC is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in substance abuse and family relations. Since 1985, she has helped to guide parents, families, couples, and adolescents towards recovery and its aftermath.
Ms. Freshman received her Masters in Social Work from Columbia University in 1979 and her B.A. cum laude from New York University in 1975. She is currently completing her Ph.D in Social Work at New York University. She has been a credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor since 1985.
Ms. Freshman developed the family-based model of treatment of chemical dependency at Tempo Group, Inc. a NYS OASAS agency located on Long Island, New York. As Associate Director she continues to bring contemporary thinking to the organization to enhance programming and treatment for clients and their families.
Ms. Freshman is currently an Adjunct Professor and lectures on adolescence and substance abuse at NYU Shcool of Social Work Post Masters Certificate Program in the Addictions. She developed the curriculum for training in chemical dependency for Hofstra University where she taught courses in the Graduate Department of Marital/Family counseling.
Since its inception in 1999, Ms. Freshman has been the Assistant Editor of the Journal of Practice of Social Work in the Addictions. She has published extensively on the subjects of adolescence, trauma and addiction. She has made numerous workshop presentations on these topics and is well-versed in addressing the risk factors and treatment of addiction.
In 2003, Ms. Freshman appeared on The John Walsh Show as an "expert guest" to discuss methamphetamine addiction in women.

As a child of a Holocaust survivor, Ms. Freshman is attuned to the issues of addiction within the Jewish community. She is currently completing her doctoral dissertation on the intergenerational transmission of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and its relation to substance abuse amongst adult children of Holocaust Survivors.
